MRS. SHOETAN ADETUTU ADESOLA (DIRECTOR LEGAL UNIT)
Mrs. Adetutu Adesola Shoetan is a native of Ijebu-Ife in Ijebu-East Local Government Area of Ogun State. She has an LLB Hon. Degree in Law in 1983 from the University of Lagos and proceeded to the Nigerian Law School where she was called to the Bar in 1984 having passed the B.L. Examination.
Mrs. Shoetan had a brief experience in private legal practice with Olusola Akinnoye-Agbaje & Co. (Legal Practitioners) between June – December, 1985 and commenced her Civil Service career with the Federal Government in December, 31st 1985 as a State Counsel grade II with Federal Ministry of Justice.
In her 32 years in the Federal Civil Service, she served in the following MDA’s:
* 2011- date – Director Legal Services, Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing (Power);
* 2005-2011 – Legal Adviser, Federal Ministry of Environment;
* 2001-2005 – Legal Adviser, Presidential Committee on Barracks Rehabilitation;
* 1998-2001 – Asst. Chief Legal Officer International and Comparative Law Department, Federal Ministry of Justice;
* 1986-1998 – Asst. Legal Adviser, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing;
* 1983-1982 – State Counsel Grade II Solicitor Department Federal Ministry of Justice.
She served as the Secretary to the Presidential Implementation Committee on Affordable Housing.
She has participated in various Local and International Conferences, Workshops, Seminars such as:
United Nations Working Group on Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol, Draft Regulation on Genetic Resources, and Assignment in Receivable Finances, etc.
She is married with children.
The Legal Unit of the Ministry falls under the Office of the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation, whose office is a constitutional creation by virtue of Section 150 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999. Being a Unit under the Ministry, it exercises such functions and powers that are exercisable by the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation pursuant to Section 174 (2) of the Constitution.
The Unit constitutes a clearing house for all legal matters for which the Ministry is involved. The core functioning of the Unit includes but not limited to the following:
i. Drafting/Vetting of Legal documents and Agreements for the Ministry;
ii. Rendering Legal opinion/advice on all legal matters referred;
iii. Handling litigation matters on behalf of the Ministry;
iv. Negotiation of contract terms and conditions on behalf of the Ministry.
In order to effectively discharge its constitutional/administrative responsibilities within the purview of the Ministry of Power, the Unit is guided by the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Procurement Act, National Electric Regulatory Commission Act, Law Reports of various Courts, Electric Power Sector Reform Act and other extant Laws.
